ABD hedefli saldırı, erişim problemine sebep oldu

Yine ve yeniden DDos saldırısı ile dünya genelinde çok kullanılan servislerin kesintiye uğramasına sebep olundu. 21 Ekim saat 11:10 UTC’de başlayan saldırı ile Github, Twitter, SaneBox, Reddit, AirBnB, Heroku gibi servislerde kesintiler gözlenmeye başladı.
Bir saldırı bu kadar çok siteyi nasıl etkiledi?
Büyük sitelerin DNS servisi hizmetini sağlayan DYNdns’e doğru yapılan saldırı nedeniyle isim IP çözümlemesi gerçekleşmedi ve sitelere ait servisler cevap veremez hale geldi. Saldırı direkt olarak adı sayılan sitelere yapılmasa da DNS çözümlemesi yapılamaması nedeniyle kullanıcılar servislere erişemedi. Buradaki zafiyet ise bir çok internet sitesinin aynı servis sağlayıcıyı kullanıyor olmasıydı.
Saldırı nasıl yapıldı?
Nesnelerin interneti ile birlikte bir çok cihaz internete bağlı duruma geldi. Ancak bu teknoloji ile birlikte düşük güvenlik önlemleri veya iyi geliştirilmemiş işletim sistemlerini kullanan cihazlar birer silah haline dönüştü. Cihazlardaki açıklardan faydalanan saldırganlar cihazların DYNdns servislerine doğru yoğun paket göndermesini sağladı.
Türkiye’de saldırı neden daha geç hissedildi?
DNS servisleri içinde bir cache mekanizması barındırdığından olası bir kesinti durumunda DNS servisini sunan sağlayıcının belirlediği bir süre içinde istekler sunucuya gönderilmeden depo bilgiden karşılanabilmekte. Bu sebeple Türkiye’deki internet servis sağlayıcıların DNS cache süreleri nedeniyle problem Türkiye’de daha geç hissedildi. Ayrıca yine ABD’de internet kullanıcılarının genel olarak internet sitelerine erişememelerine sebep olan bu duruma sebep olan DNS servislerinden farklı IP adreslerini kullanan Türk kullanıcılar bu kesintilerden etkilenmedi.
Bu tip bir dns saldırısı daha önce .TR alanadı servis sağlayıcısı ODTÜ’ye yönelikte yapılmıştı.

Bir merkezden gelmeyen bu tip bir saldırının engellenmesi daha zor ve zahmetli olduğu için problemin giderilmesi zaman aldı.

Amerika’da geniş bir alanı etkileyen DNS problemini kullanıcılar farklı DNS IP adresleri kullanarak aşmaya çalıştırlar.

Bu açıklama sonrasında ise saldırının durdurulduğu bilgisi paylaşıldı. Ancak saldırı yöntemi göz önüne alındığında benzer bir durumun kolayca tekrarlanabileceği görülmekte.

Geçmişte bu iş için ülke uzantıları kullanılmış ve özellikle goo.gl, bit.ly gibi URL kısaltma servisleri çok popüler olmuştu. Bu konudaki pazarı gören ICANN’de yeni uzantılar oluşturup bunlardan lisans bedelleri almaya başladı. Sonuç olarak suyun başını ICANN tuttuğu için istediğine yeni uzantı yetkisi vermeye devam edebiliyor.
Son günlerde .TR alan adı uzantısı yanına com.tr, net.tr gibi ekler getirmeyi tercih eden ODTÜ için de artık eksiz, genel tescile açık .TR uzantıya izin vermesi konusunda baskılar her geçen gün artıyor.
Bu konudaki talepleri ICANN organizasyonunu birlikte izlediğimiz .TR alan adı yönetiminden sorumlu Atilla Özgit Bey ve ekibine ilk elden iletme şansım oldu. Umuyorum ki .TR alan adının yalın şekilde tescile açılması, Türkiye’nin internet aleminde kendinden daha çok söz ettirmesine katkıda bulunabilir.

Twitter’a erişimin engellenmesi sonrasında Twitter ve erişimi engellenen diğer sitelere giriş için alternatif DNS adresi olarak kullanılan Google’a ait 8.8.8.8 ve 8.8.4.4 DNS IP adresleri de dün gece engellendi.

İnternet çalışmıyor!

Bu yasaklama ile bilgisayarlarında bu DNS adreslerini kullananlar internette hiçbir sayfayı açamaz duruma geldiler. Alternatif farklı DNS adresleri ile erişim tekrar sağlanabilir iken yapılan bu engelleme bir çok bilişim sistemini de etkilemiş durumda.
Sadece ev kullanıcıları tarafından değil, bir çok bilişim sistemi tarafından da kullanılan bu adreslerin alternatifleri ile değiştirilmesi zaman alacak bir işlem olacak iken yapılan bu engelleme internette ciddi şekilde yavaşlamaya sebep olmuş durumda.

8.8.8.8 ve 8.8.4.4

Alan adı sistemi, internet üzerinde rakamlarla ifade edilen IP adreslerine, tarayıcıya isim yazarak ulaşılabilmesi için çeviren hizmet. Adres tarifi yapan bu hizmet, internetin temel taşlarından birisi.
Google’ın halka açık DNS sunucu hizmeti, internet kullanıcılarının DNS’ler yüzünden yaşadığı yavaşlamanın önüne geçilmesi için Google tarafından verilen ücretsiz bir hizmet. Bu DNS sunucularının bir diğer bilinen özelliği ise DNS seviyesinde yasaklanan internet sitelerine bu sunucular ile erişilebilmesi. Yani Google internet yasaklarının çevresinden dolaşmak için de bir araç sunuyor. Bir çok farklı DNS adresi olmasına karşın bu IP adreslerinin önerilme sebebi ise hizmetin Google tarafından sunulması nedeniyle service duyulan güven.

Alternarif DNS erişimi servis sağlayıcı seviyesinden kesildi!

Yaptığımız kontrollerde 8.8.8.8 ve 8.8.4.4 IP adreslerine erişimin servis sağlayıcı seviyesinden kesildiği görülmekte. Şu anda test yapılan Türk Telekom, TTnet ve Superonline kullanıcıları bu DNS sunuculara ait IP adreslerine erişim sağlayamıyor.

Şimdi ne olacak?

Opendns olarak bilinen oluşuma ait olan 208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220 DNS sunucularına şuan halen erişim mümkün iken kısa süre içinde bu tip çok kullanılan sunucularada erişim engeli gelmesi olası. Yapılan bu engellemeler sonrasında servis sağlayıcısının otomatik IP adreslerini kullanmak durumunda kalan kullanıcılar bu şekilde erişimi engellenen sitelere giriş yapamamış olacaklar. VPN tarzı erişim yöntemleri ise halen tahtını korur durumda.

İnternet dünyasında her bir cihazın, internet sitesinin kendisini tanımlayan özel bir sayısal adresi olmak zorunda. Sörf yaptığımız her bir sitenin sahip olduğu sayısal adreslerin, on tane telefon numarasını dahi akılda tutamayan bizler için hatırlanması mümkün değil. İşte tam bu yüzden internette gerçek hayattaki gibi sürekli adres sorulan mahalle esnafı şirinliğinde bir servisi bulunmakta. Nam-ı diğer; DNS.

Adres sordum. Borçlu çıktım.

Bu servisin görevi, ulaşılmak istenen internet adreslerini sayısal hale çevirmek. İnternet tarayıcınıza yazdığınız her adres öncelikle bu servise giderek yol tarifi alınmakta. Eğer bir sitenin açılmasını istemiyorsanız bu durumda yapacağınız ilk şey yol sorulan kişinin hafızasını silmek veya doğru tarif yerine farklı bir tarif vermesini sağlamak.
Ama internet mahallesinde adres sorulacak birden fazla esnaf var. Birincisinden istenen cevap alınamaması durumunda alternatif yerlerden adres sorma özgürlüğüne sahibiz. İş böyle olunca seçme özgürlüğü nedeniyle hedefe ulaşmak yine mümkün olabiliyor. (DNS değiştirme)

Bir yere her gidişinizde gideceğiniz yere bakacak, elindeki gidilmeyecekler listesi ile karşılaştıracak ondan sonra izin verecek. Ama bu sorgu sual faslı da öyle kolay bir şey değil. Dünyaca ünlü domain yakalama aracı Snampnames ve Moniker domain yönetim sistemleri çalışmıyor. Özellike internet sitelerine DNS hizmeti de sunan Moniker‘de yaşanan servis kesintisi, birçok internet sitesine erişilememesine sebep oluyor.

ABD başta olmak üzere dünyanın dört bir yanındaki internet kullanıcılarına gönderilen bir spam mailde, “FBI, 9 Temmuz tarihine bilgisayarınızda virüs olması halinde bilgisayarına el koyacak! Kontrol etmek için hemen bu sayfayı ziyaret edin!! Bu e-maili tanıdığınız herkese iletin!!!” ifadesini içeriyordu. Sayfa ziyaret edildiğinde ise DNSChanger virüsü bilgisayarlara bulaşıyor ve harekete geçeceği 9 Temmuz’u beklemeye başlıyordu.

Yaşanan kesintinin bu güne denk gelmesi. “Acaba kesintinin virüs ile bir ilgisi olabilir mi?” sorusunu sormama neden oldu.
